Motors lift the hatch fine and will close fine.
Audi q7 rear door wont open from inside.

I too was trying to justify it with the crazy mugger scenario but like you said you could just drive away or said crazy mugger could manually open the door provided he also has in depth knowledge of the audi q7.
Engine running or ignition on battery charged all components of the rear lid are functional and in good condition.
It is possible the rear lid does not open all the way on the 4l audi q7 2007.

When hatch button on driver s door is pressed when unlock button on key fob is pressed or when handle on rear hatch is pressed the door will not open.
